“Withhold Judgement”
By Ashley O’Hare
Please do not judge me for who I became.
I don’t like her either.
There’s something in her eyes I recognize,
but she’s got anger pouring out of her ears
There is no place for her here,
but I don’t know where to send her.
This caricature of my face
still helped me tend to my burns.
I’ve packed up all of her bags
as I anticipate the real me’s arrival.
It’s bittersweet to let her go–
she’s the one to thank for my survival.
