“What Remains” New Poem of the Day (2023)

“What Remains”

By Ashley O’Hare

Like the sun

peeking through gray clouds

after a reckless storm,

you were always

my glimmer of hope;

glistening against the

pitch black background.

It comes without surprise

that my optimism’s demise

followed your departure.

After all,

what is the point

of a steep fall

if not for the

shift in perspective:

A daredevil is tamed.

An adventurer is drained.

An optimist is maimed.

A realist remains.
