“Breaking Down”
By Ashley O’Hare
Time after time
I find myself
crying on the floor,
claiming to be fine.
The world twists
and contorts; transforming
into a reality
foreign to mine.
My mind is incapable
of keeping pace
with salty streams of tears
rolling down my face.
I choke through
shaking, staggered breaths-
fighting to keep my strength.
There’s no other option.
Time after time
I wait for the tears
to stop falling
and ignore my fears-
forcing my legs
into rising.
