“Patience” Poem of the Day (2023)

“Patience”

By Ashley O’Hare

How was I supposed to see it coming?

This whole path was new; uncharted.

They just had to finish what they started.

No remorse for the broken-hearted.

Now I wring my pillow every morning,

my scarred heart forever stuck in mourning.

Unsaid words wrapped around my neck

tighten sharply, restricting my breath.

The singular silver lining; my newfound wisdom.

Live and learn: the tried and true system.

It’s worth it to fight for what is wanted.

Don’t turn your back on your only solace.

It’ll take time to recover from this damage,

but I’m patient; I’ll manage.
