My Top 10 Comfort Movies
Sometimes the perfect antidote to a rough week is a good movie. Over the years, I have had the tendency to gravitate towards some movies more than others. Here are my top 10 favorite comfort movies that I generally turn to.
- The Hunger Games
This entire series, both the books and the movies, have been my number one pick for years. This film series brings me back to a simpler time every time I turn it on. Catching Fire is my personal favorite. From the costuming to the writing and actors, I have yet to find another movie that competes with these films. If a distraction is what I am looking for, it takes only a few minutes of any of these films to make me completely forget what had been bothering me.
- Twilight
I enjoy all of the movies in the Twilight saga, but the first movie is my favorite. There is something about the tone and the coloring of the film that feels like a hug. Entering a world of vampires and werewolves is as far from the trials of my normal life as I can get.
- Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Though the films are not an accurate adaptation of my childhood favorite book series, they are still amazing. This movie makes me laugh, even when I feel like crying. It feels like hopping in the car and going on an impromptu road trip with your friends.
- Journey to the Center of the Earth
Journey to the Center of the Earth and its sequel, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island are incredibly underrated movies. These adventure films distract me from anything I feel is going wrong in my life and replaces it with the urge to start making travel plans.
- Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel movies in general are great for an escape. Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in particular are my favorites when I am feeling down. I love the comedy and the pure chaos in these movies. As a bonus, Baby Groot in the sequel is so adorable, he can cheer anybody up in the opening scene.
- Tangled
Disneymovies were a staple in my childhood. Alice in Wonderland is my favorite Disney movie, but Tangled is the one I turn to when I need a pick me up. From the songs to the animation, there is something so gentle and uplifting about it.
- Megamind
Megamind is another movie I turn to when I need a good laugh. I was beyond excited when I saw this movie had been added to Netflix’s library. This is another film that is filled with chaotic characters that cheer you up in a flash.
- RV
Robin Williams was one of my favorite actors as a child. I remember sitting with my family in the living room and watching his movies. RV has been my favorite out of all of his films. Road trips with family in general are prone to bringing out hilarious moments.
- Spider-Man
For years, Spider-Man has been my favorite superhero. Andrew Garfield’s portrayal as the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 happen to be my favorites.
- Shrek
Shrek is the perfect movie to watch, regardless of the circumstances. There isn’t much else to say about the series.
